The World is Ageing — and So Are We

Our planet is changing.

Every year, more people turn 40, 50, 60 and beyond.

While longevity is one of humanity’s greatest achievements, it also brings new demographic and social challenges.

It’s time for a new approach to education, movement, and quality of life.

That’s why we’ve created the Global Active Ageing Standard—an international educational framework and course system designed to help fitness, wellness, and health professionals effectively support adults (40+) all the way into later life.

Our goal?

To move beyond the traditional concept of a “fitness trainer” and establish a global competency standard for professionals working in active ageing—trainers, instructors, consultants, and educators.

WHY NOW?

According to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), population ageing is a global phenomenon—every country in the world is shifting towards an older age structure.

  • The World Health Organisation predicts that by 2030, 1 in 6 people worldwide will be 60 years or older..

  • Between 2024 and 2074, the share of people aged 65+ is expected to double—from 10% to more than 20% of the global population (UN Population Fund).

  • In some nations, such as Japan and China, populations are already shrinking, highlighting that “active ageing” is not just about living longer but living better.

WHY GO GLOBAL?

The program’s success in Poland—and among Polish professionals worldwide—proves that this model works.

Now it’s time to take it further.

Regardless of borders or culture, the human body ages in the same way.

What differs is how societies teach and support ageing.

We want to bridge that gap

Our mission is to unite experts, educators, and organisations from around the world to build a common educational standard for the fitness, wellness, and health sectors.

Because everyone deserves to age actively, confidently, and with dignity.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR EDUCATION

The growing number of adults aged 40+ creates a massive demand for specialists who truly understand this group’s needs:

  • physical and mental health,

  • functional movement and prevention,

  • The standard also focuses on long-term wellbeing and quality of life.

Likewise, there’s no unified global educational framework combining anatomy, physiology, the psychology of ageing, and international certification.

The Global Active Ageing Standard aims to change that—enabling global cooperation, qualification recognition, and knowledge exchange across ICREP member countries and beyond.

A NEW MODEL OF EDUCATION

We’re not creating just another qualification — we’re building a collaborative model that connects knowledge across science, health, and movement.

The curriculum is built around:

  • Physiology and anatomy of ageing

  • Psychology and communication with older adults

  • Preventive health, nutrition, and recovery

  • Practical training and adaptation for individual needs

We work hand-in-hand with universities, medical experts, neuropsychologists, dietitians, and physiotherapists, ensuring that the Global Active Ageing Standard becomes a real tool for change, not just a theoretical document.

Join the Global Movement

We invite:

  • ICREP's member countries

  • Educational organisations

  • Universities and fitness schools

  • Health & wellness experts

to co-create the Global Active Ageing Standard — a shared platform for learning, research, and innovation.

Partnership Opportunities

1️⃣ Register Bodies

We collaborate with national register bodies and fitness councils responsible for implementing and supervising professional standards.

If no such body exists, a group of recognised experts may serve as national coordinators.

Example: In Poland, this function is fulfilled by REPs Polska, which adapted the global standards to local needs with the participation of over 120 experts, doctors, professors, and educators.

We’re now seeking representatives in each country to confirm and validate the standard regionally.

2️⃣ Training Providers & Universities

We're looking for accredited training centres and universities to deliver education based on the Global Active Ageing Standard.

Course structure:

  • 70%—shared global content, created by international experts (translated into local languages).

  • 30%—local adaptation (laws, examples, and cultural context).

Each course concludes with a unified theoretical and practical exam to ensure international recognition.

3️⃣ Fitness Clubs & Training Studios

We invite clubs and studios that want to expand their offer for adults 40+.

This is a rapidly growing audience—stable, motivated, and looking for professional, safe, and holistic support.

Together, we can help make clubs and studios centres of lifelong well-being, not just physical training.

4️⃣ Trainers, Instructors & Health Professionals

If you are a trainer, instructor, dietitian, physiotherapist, psychologist, or health coach, this programme is for you
